1. Odds Formats Explained
Depending on where in the world you make your bets the odds formats can appear in different ways. You can usually choose which format you want to use at your own online bookmaker. There are four main different odds formats that you will see online.
European odds:
This format is also called decimal odds. These are written in a decimal format for example 1.00, 1.50, 2.75, 5.00, 14.00 etc. The odds 2.75 means that you will win 2.75xstake. So if you bet $100 you will get 2.75x100 = $275. $275-$100= $175 equals your net profit.
English Odds:
This format is also called fractional odds. The odds are written in fraction for example 1/2, 1/4, 4/3, 5/2 etc. The odds 4/3 means that to win 4 you have to stake 3. The odds 4/3 is the same as 2.33 in decimal format.
American Odds:
This format is usually the most complicated for Europeans. To explain how this odds format works we will use a basketball game as an example. The home team has the odds -200 and the away team +150. Depending on if the odds has a plus or minus in front, it will be calculated differently. -200 means that you have to stake 200 to win 100. +150 means that if you stake 100 you will win 150.
Asian Odds:
Asian odds works the same way as the European odds with one exception. They only tell you what the netto profit is. 1.50 in European odds is the same as 0.5 in Asian odds.
